The proof of a good actor is in his ability to stump even his director. That is precisely what Ramu did when he took filmmaker Ramgopal Varma completely by surprise.
Ramu plays the character based on evangelist-cum-politician KA Paul in the movie `Amma Rajyam lo Kadapa Biddlu’. The movie whose title was changed from the original Kamma Rajyam lo Kadapa Reddlu after objections were raised, is a political satire on Andhra Pradesh. Paul has threatened to take Varma to court for defaming him through the movie.
During a TV5 Telugu TV show, Varma was in the studio when the anchor sought to patch Paul on the phone line to ask questions directly to the filmmaker. Over the next several minutes, Varma and `Paul’ had a verbal altercation and it was only at the end that it was revealed that Ramu in collaboration with the channel, had pulled a fast one on RGV.
While on one hand, it can be seen as good fun, it also blurs the line between news and entertainment channels.
