It is a tradition Telugu star Vijay Deverakonda started last year on his birthday. To treat his fans to icecream. What better way to celebrate his birthday which comes in the middle of a blazing Hyderabad summer.
This 9 May, Vijay distributed thousands of creamstone `Mr Alphonso’ icecreams in seven cities in the five states in south India in nine trucks. The actor who is considered the current heartthrob of Tollywood, was present at the Banjara Hills store in Hyderabad, creating his own concept icecream.
While three trucks crisscrossed Hyderabad, others travelled to Warangal, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kochi.
Reminiscing that birthday celebrations during schooltime meant distributing chocolates, Vijay said icecream as a treat concept appealed to him.
“You give me so much love. I would like to share this day with you,” he said.
Last birthday, three trucks went around only in Hyderabad, distributing 5000 icecreams. Vijay’s special focus is to distribute icecreams to those who work on the roads, especially traffic policemen and labourers.
This year has seen a scaled-up operation, perhaps also because Vijay ventured into Tamil cinema with NOTA and his `Dear Comrade’ in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam is due for release in July.
