At the movies

Baahubali maker’s another first. Rajamouli to do one-day `RRR’ trial shoot

As indicated by Telangana Cinematography minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav in an interview to Filter Kaapi Live last week, post-production work on Telugu films is set to begin this weekend or early next week. Close to a dozen films were stuck at the post-production stage when lockdown was imposed in March and this is seen as a way to kickstart the celluloid industry.

At a meeting that Yadav held with bigwigs of the Telugu film world, including actors Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna, directors SS Rajamouli and Koratala Siva and producers Allu Aravind and Dil Raju, the government was urged to allow the process of shooting to begin in a calibrated manner.

With the government apprehensive of the manpower that will be present in close proximity to each other during the shoot, the middle path arrived at was to have a trial one-day shoot of `RRR’ (Rajamouli’s venture) and `Acharya’ (Chiranjeevi’s film). Both are big budget movies and usually entail the presence of a large number of people on sets at any given point of time and it will be a challenge for those associated with both movies to bring down the numbers on the sets.

“We will do this shoot with limited number of technicians,” Rajamouli said at the meeting. Depending on the feedback and the experience, a final decision on when to allow the shootings to commence will be taken by the chief minister.

Theatres however, will not be opened in a hurry as that can wait till the new movies are due for release. This will allow exhibitors time to work out ways on how to implement social distancing norms. The Telangana government also feels that a decision on opening of cinema halls will have to be taken at the national level as many of the multiplex chains are owned by a set of corporate giants with footprints in every major city in India.
