Mohanlal turned 60 today. Even as birthday wishes poured in for this milestone, the Complete Actor as Lalettan is called, decided to give a return gift. A sequel to one of his biggest hits in recent years, Drishyam (which means Visual).
Drishyam 2, to be directed by Jeethu Joseph will once again have Mohanlal in the lead role. The original which was a jumbo hit, was subsequently remade in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. It was even made in Sinhalese and Chinese, becoming the first Indian film to be remade in Beijing.
In an interview to Manorama News, Mohanlal had said, “I have read the script of Drishyam 2. It is more thrilling than the prequel. After lockdown, shooting might begin.”
Released in 2013, Drishyam had won a plethora of awards, including for the Kerala State and Filmfare Best feature film. It is the story of Georgekutty, a cable operator in Thodupuzha in Kerala whose wife ends up killing the son of a senior police officer after he tries to sexually harass their daughter. How Georgekutty saves his family formed the plot of Drishyam.
