Till a few weeks ago, it was confirmed that two of the biggest Telugu films to release this Sankranti festival had sorted out their dates. Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru was to release on 11 January while Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikuntapuramlo was to hit the box office the following day. But now it seems the last word has not been said yet.
That’s because buoyed by the tremendous response to its teasers and audio tracks, Allu Arjun reportedly no longer wants to hit the screens a day later than Mahesh Babu. So film websites report that the stylish actor is in favour of looking at a 10 January release which won’t inappropriate given that it is a Friday. But that would upset the allotment of theatres as well as be seen as going back on what was decided upon.
Adding to the confusion is the fact that Dil Raju who is producing the Mahesh Babu starrer is also the distributor of the Allu Arjun movie in the Nizam territory.
In the middle of all this is Rajinikanth’s Darbar that is a Pongal-Sankranti bilingual release. One will have to see how much traction the Telugu dubbed version of the Superstar-Murugadoss collaboration gets when the two Telugu stars are looking to corner most of the cinegoers during the festival week.
