The kolam and rangoli as a mode of protest has spread from Chennai to Amaravati. Taking cue from the anti-CAA and anti-NRC slogans used in the kolam designs by citizens of Tamil Nadu, the 15-day agitation has seen farmers of Amaravati also taking to rangolis to register their protest against the proposed decision to make Visakhapatnam the administrative capital of Andhra Pradesh, reducing Amaravati to the Legislative capital.
Chandrababu Naidu too has decided to forsake New Year celebrations and instead stand by the farmers to express solidarity. Despite the rumblings against his pro-Amaravati decision from party leaders in the north coastal and Rayalaseema regions, Naidu will spend the first day of 2020 visiting villages in Amaravati. Though his protest threatens to disrupt his Telugu Desam and also reduce him to a Krishna-Guntur belt leader, Naidu believes the optics of the protest will expose Jaganmohan Reddy as a leader who is constanty in vengeance mode.
Accompanied by wife Nara Bhuvaneswari, Naidu will urge party leaders and cadre to donate money to the cause of the protesting farmers and agricultural workers.
