KCR reacts on Hyderabad doctor gangrape-murder, KTR urges PM to amend IPC

For three days, Hyderabad has been hitting the headlines for extremely unfortunate reasons. But Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has kept mum over the gangrape and murder of the 26-year-old veterinary doctor. He neither visited the family of the victim nor tweeted about the horrific crime. He was criticised for instead taking out time to attend a wedding on Saturday.  (pic below)

On Sunday, KCR broke his silence and called the crime “inhuman”, adding “animals in human form are roaming around”, promising a fast-track court will expedite the trial.

Addressing RTC employees, the CM also said women employees at the bus corporation would not have duty hours beyond 8 pm.

Separately, Telangana’s Industry minister and KCR’s son KT Rama Rao appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have a day-long discussion on safety of women in Parliament. KTR also urged the PM to amend the Indian Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure and ensure those who commit heinous acts of violence on women and children are given capital punishment with no provision for a review.

The BJP was critical of KTR’s tweets, calling it “sermons on Twitter instead of apologising to the victim’s family for his government’s incompetence to protect her life”.

“It is a shame that he is trying to change the goalpost instead of owning up and being accountable for the criminal negligence in dealing with this case,” said Krishnasaagar Rao, BJP spokesperson.
