Bengaluru police put mannequins on the road. Here is why

The urban version of a scarecrow is here. And it is a traffic constable.

As a way to tackle the fewer number of boots on the ground, the Bengaluru Traffic police have installed 200 life-size mannequins at important junctions in the city, that see frequent traffic snarls. The idea is that riders and drivers will mistake the mannequins to be real traffic cops and that will deter them from breaking the rules. The mannequins will be equipped with CCTVs to record violations so that these are not just mere artefacts on the road.

The city police has tried to make these traffic mannequins as real as possible. They are dressed in traffic police uniform with reflector jackets, hats and boots. Even sunglasses have been fitted to lend them some style as well.

The problem however, is that mannequin’s skin tone is extremely fair and look hardly Indian. Photograph courtesy : The New Indian Express.
