Chandrababu Naidu

ACB case against Naidu will provide Jagan with ammunition

Jaganmohan Reddy sees this as a good opportunity to get back at Chandrababu Naidu. For years, Naidu and the Telugu Desam have taunted him as “Accused number 1” in eleven chargesheets, someone who spent 16 months in prison and is expected to go to court every Friday.

Now with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Hyderabad taking up the petition filed in 2005 by NT Rama Rao’s widow Lakshmi Parvathi against Naidu, Jagan will ensure the YSRCP’s legal battery is out to back the case. After all, nothing will please Jagan and the YSRCP more than seeing Naidu in the dock. For the last 14 years, the stay by the High court in the case had prevailed. But now with the Supreme Court vacating all such old stays, the case has received fresh oxygen.

As far as Naidu is concerned, both the petitioner – Lakshmi Parvathi – and the party she now belongs to, the YSRCP, have no love lost for Naidu. While the court will record Parvathi’s statement on 25 November, what is expected to happen is a social media trial of sort with the TDP and YSRCP trading charges with an attempt to indulge in mud-slinging.

Since the case pertains to Naidu’s stint as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh between 1995 and 2004, it is quite possible that the government may push to become a party to the case as well.

On his part, Naidu has maintained that he came out clean even after the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy tried to probe him in several cases.
