Telangana dumps Globarena after Intermediate Exam fiasco, trains counsellers

The Board of Intermediate Education has gone back to the Centre for Good Governance to provide it with the technical back-up for the conduct of the Intermediate exams. This was after the fiasco last academic year when there were many errors reported in the evaluation process. As a result, Globarena which was handling the process has been given the boot.

“The software was not responding properly so that created problems for the children in paying their exam fee, getting the hall ticket etc,” said Syed Omer Jaleel, Commissioner of Intermediate Education. “Globarena is out because they were not able to deliver the services. They did not enter into an agreement with the Board so I am free to take the services from anyone else.”

On the recommendation of a three-member committee, the Board has established an IT cell in its office and is also going to set up a project monitoring unit. This will help smoothen the interaction between the Board and the technical service provider. The CGG has worked on the software and provided solutions to the problems that were encountered in 2018-19.

The Board is also training 404 counsellers, one each from each of the 404 government junior colleges in Telangana, to interact with students to prevent suicides. 25 students took the extreme step this year, unable to come to terms with failure in the exams. This programme will be inaugurated on 15 November. With 17 of those students from private colleges, these institutions will also be nudged to have a lecturer, with a reputation of being friendly with students, as the counseller.
