BJP MP Bandi Sanjay manhandled by Telangana cops, Centre asks for report

The alleged manhandling of Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay by a police officer during the funeral procession of RTC driver N Babu on Friday, has turned into a flashpoint between the BJP and the TRS in Telangana. The state BJP leadership took the matter to G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Home. Reddy has asked Telangana DGP Mahender Reddy for a report on the incident.

Babu had died while he was attending the protest meeting organised by the striking employees in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The police realised that the funeral procession could see things get out of hand with a large number of people and political activists joining it. Tight security was put in place and the police did not allow non-family members from entering the cremation ground, leading to a scuffle. That is when Sanjay was allegedly pushed away.

All BJP MPs and leaders took to social media to condemn this incident of high handedness by the police, calling the behaviour of the cops “unacceptable”.

The BJP in the state is also angry that this is the third such incident where one of their leaders has been manhandled. Earlier in May this year, their MLA Raja Singh was arrested on order of the Hyderabad police commissioner when he visited the disturbed area of Amberpet in the city (video below). More recently, Telangana BJP president K Laxman was allegedly manhandled up by the police during a protest demonstration on the RTC strike issue.

The BJP along with the other opposition parties have been backing the RTC employees in their fight against the government. K Chandrasekhar Rao is livid for precisely this reason that the BJP is trying to fish in troubled waters. Look out for relations between the two parties going from bad to worse, with the BJP looking to emerge as the principal opposition voice in Telangana.
