Will Chinna Jeeyar seer help break the Telangana bus strike impasse?

The RTC strike in Telangana is 26 days old now. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has adopted a tough stand vis-a-vis the RTC union leaders and employees. He dismissed 48000 employees on day 2 of the strike on 6 October and has bluntly refused to concede any of the demands.

And despite the High court intervention, there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. This is because the CM is dealing with the issue himself and it is not easy to meet the CM to try and arrive at some kind of conciliation. With TRS leaders also learning from MP Keshava Rao’s experience who first spoke in favour of mediation, only to back out later, there is no one in the ruling establishment who can try and find a way out of the stalemate. The bureaucrats are not empowered to take a decision.

Realising that the RTC strike was going nowhere, the RTC Joint Action Committee decided to meet religious seer Chinna Jeeyar, who is a godman considered close to KCR. The CM attended his birthday celebrations this week and listened to his discourse. KCR is known to listen to his counsel on most religious matters and in fact, had courted controversy by making the seer sit on the CM’s chair in his office at Pragathi Bhavan during the house warming ceremony in November 2016.

All eyes are on whether the godman will give his counsel on a matter of public importance to KCR.
