M Jayamma, the second additional first class magistrate at the Khammam court in Telangana, is the latest victim of dengue. She succumbed after undergoing treatment for the last ten days at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad.

But the government has been in denial mode all along. Health minister E Rajender denied there have been any dengue deaths in the state, despite hospitals overflowing with patients reporting symptoms of dengue. Instead, it went after labs accusing them of falsely reporting dengue cases.

Sanitation has been a huge grouse this monsoon season, that has extended till October. The municipal authorities have been found wanting in ensuring against stagnant water pools and garbage disposal, resulting in a rather high number of cases being reported this year.
