On Saturday, members of the film industry met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. Among those present were Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Boney Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut. On the agenda was to discuss how the entertainment world could contribute on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The PM’s official Twitter handle @PMOIndia tweeted extensively on what was discussed at the meeting.
But Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi’s daughter-in-law Upasana Konidela called out the PM for reducing the creative field only to Bollywood, completely ignoring the large mass from south India.
In a media posted on social media, Upasana wrote : “Dearest @narendramodi ji. We in the south of INDIA admire you and are proud to have you as our Prime Minister. With all due respect, we felt that the representation of Leading personalities and cultural icons was limited only to Hindi artists and the South Film Industry was completely neglected. I express my feelings with pain and hope it’s taken in the right spirit.”
But it was not as if the south went completely unrepresented. Prominent Telugu film producer Dil Raju was present as was actor Rakulpreet Singh who dabbles in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films. She gushed about the selfie she took with the PM, calling it the best selfie she had ever taken.
