Satire : When Owaisi flew a kite

By Tenali Rama (Follow @Iamtenalirama)

Asaduddin Owaisi’s gesture of flying a kite that was interpreted as performing an impromptu jig, has led to a war of words in the political theatre of Maharashtra ahead of the 21 October assembly election. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has claimed that the BJP will cut Owaisi’s kite, leaving him with a kati patang on 24 October.

“I am not surprised because the BJP loves to cut and after cutting 1500 trees at Aarey forest, they have acquired expertise in cutting,” retorted Owaisi.

“But where are the kites,” asked BJP president Amit Shah. “This dance step like gesture is just a jumla by Owaisi. On behalf of the BJP, I promise that if we form the government in Maharashtra, each person will get 15 lakh kites.”

Union minister Piyush Goyal has exhorted the people of Maharashtra not to get carried away by the kite.

“Don’t get into the calculated dance moves that you see on television. Don’t get into those 1,2,3,4 kind of Maths. Maths never helped Einstein discover gravity. Moreover, to make a kite go up is to defy gravity and therefore Owaisi is anti-Einstein,” said Goyal.

Goyal’s cabinet colleague Ravi Shankar Prasad too has rubbished Owaisi’s attempt to make Indians remain happy with flying kites.

“In Indian movies these days, you hardly see the hero flying a kite. They are all playing the latest video games. That is the progress we have made in Modi’s India. That is why the films are big hits and an indication that the economy is doing so well,” said Prasad.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has ordered a discreet probe into whether there is a kite-for-votes scandal this election with voters sought to be bribed with expensive kites. A vigilance officer deputed to Maharashtra is heading the investigation.

Kabhi kabhi to lagta hai apun hi bhagwaan hai,” said the officer when asked by Tenali Rama if he is keeping a close eye on the expenditure incurred on kites by political parties.
