Brace for an extremely crowded Sankranti release calender in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Screens are bound to be in short supply with four prominent actors looking to capture as many eyeballs as possible during the festival season.
Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru, which is the story of an army officer with Kurnool as the backdrop will be up against Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikuntapuramlo. Both movies are releasing on 12 January. With the fans of both big-ticket stars very active on social media, expect a major virtual clash as well.
The Telugu version of Rajinikanth’s Darbar will arrive three days later on 15 January. Though the Superstar’s market is essentially Tamil, he enjoys considerable fan following in the Telugu states as well. His late arrival could give the other two movies breathing space to make a killing.
The fourth movie is Venky Mama, starring Venkatesh and Naga Chaityanya. This was meant to be a Dussehra release but Venkatesh’s injury and the producer’s reluctance to go head to head against Chiranjeevi’s Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy pushed the release date first to Diwali, then to December and now it seems set for a Sankranti release on 14 January. This one is a family entertainer, like all Venkatesh movies are and the makers thought the Sankranti break would be the best time to hit the theatres when families meet for the festival.
