KCR meets Telangana govt staff even as RTC employees seek their support

With indications that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees will reach out to state government employees, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to pre-empt any such move. He did so by meeting representatives of the Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee that has three lakh employees as its members. Realising that they could have joined hands with the TSRTC, KCR has dangled the carrot of increasing the Dearness Allowance after the Huzurnagar byelection on 21 October.

At the meeting at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Hyderabad, KCR embarked on a charm offensive. He complimented them on successful implementation of the 30-day cleanliness drive in the villages.

The TSRTC unions have been on strike since 5 October and were hoping to intensify the strike by calling for a Telangana bandh and enlisting the support of the government employees unions. But the CM’s outreach will ensure the government employees won’t be too keen to be part of such a grouping. On their part, the government union leaders have denied the meeting with the CM was an attempt to ensure they do not join hands with the striking RTC employees.
