Jagan becomes a `Rajinikanth’

In one stroke, Jaganmohan Reddy drove the YSR Congress permanently into the autorickshaw constituency in Andhra Pradesh. First, by donning the auto driver’s khakee shirt while launching the YSR Vahana Mitra scheme in Eluru in West Godavari district on Friday. Then, by announcing that financial assistance will be provided to auto and cab drivers who own their vehicles. An annual allowance of Rs 10000 will be credited in their accounts for a period of five years, coming to Rs 50000. As many as 1.73 lakh beneficiaries have been identified.

“Nenu choosanu, nenu vinnanu, Nenu Vunnanu,” said Jagan emphasising that he saw the plight of the drivers when he met them during his padyatra and told them he will be by their side.

“I promised to be like a brother and am happy that I am standing by my word. In Eluru, gave my word and that is why I wanted to start this scheme here. This scheme does not see your caste, religion, party or region. If you are eligible, the money will get credited,” said the chief minister.

The allowance will help meet their insurance premium, registration fee and other recurring expenditure. A sum of Rs 400 crore was set aside in the state budget for implementation of this welfare scheme.

Rajinikanth had essayed the role of an autorickshaw driver in `Baasha’ one of his superhit films and Jagan with the khakee uniform, was like a political superstar for the auto drivers.
