Andhra Pradesh

This is how Sye Raa was allotted extra shows

Till a few hours before the scheduled release of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, there was concern if the Andhra Pradesh government would accord permission to the movie’s producers to screen two extra shows in addition to the permitted four in a day. The intention, like it is of all big ticket producers and distributors, is to cash in on the craze for the movie and in this case, the mid-week release and the Dussehra holidays.

But the hurdle were more than one. No one from the Chiranjeevi camp had met Jaganmohan Reddy personally since he became chief minister. The film industry in general, has been seen to be keeping a distance from the YSRCP and its government.

Two, Chiranjeevi’s brother Pawan Kalyan who has lent his voice to the movie, is a strong critic of the government.

But then Chiranjeevi was banking on his friends like Agriculture minister Kanna Babu within the government to make the impossible possible. Kanna Babu had worked with Chiranjeevi in the Praja Rajyam.

Then there was the caste factor. Jagan was advised by both Kapu and Reddy leaders within the party that not giving permission would send the wrong signals to both communities and the Rayalaseema region. Chiranjeevi and Pawan hail from the Kapu community and it would take it as an affront if the concession was not given.

Two, the film was the story of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy from Kurnool district of Rayalaseema region and a local hero. Heroism and raw courage, qualities that Narasimha Reddy embodied, are celebrated in Rayalaseema region and therefore it was considered best that the government make the six shows happen.

The movie has received rave reviews on day one.
