Peddapalli is the most clean district in India. The distinction of being the `Overall Best District’ in India has been bestowed on this north Telangana district during the annual survey conducted across the country in 690 districts and 17400 villages as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2019 by the Jal Shakti ministry. It gauged the districts on different sanitation parameters.
Peddapalli collector A Sri Devasena will receive the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on 2 October.
This has not been a flash in the pan. Peddapalli has been doing good work consistently, winning the Swachh Sundar Shauchalay award in June this year. Last year, it stood first in south India for its campaign against Open defecation with the construction of 1.35 lakh individual latrines.
The Telangana government was understandably elated. Chief Secretary SK Joshi called it “another well-deserved recognition for Peddapalli district”.
