Those outside of the two Telugu states know Vijay Deverakonda by his Arjun Reddy which was remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh. But his fans equally love his Geetha Govindam whose remake rights have now been bought by Rohit Shetty. A couple of months ago, Vijay’s Dear Comrade rights were bought by Karan Johar even before the movie released. It is not known what Johar will do now given that the movie got a lukewarm response at the box office.
Geetha Govindam that released in August 2018, paired Rashmika Mandanna opposite Vijay and was a breezy romantic film, with beautiful songs. It is not known if Shetty who is known more for his comedies and action films will direct this project himself. He has a way with remakes, be it remaking Singham or Temper (Telugu) as Simmba.
At this point in time, Shetty is directing Sooryavanshi with Akshay Kumar and is producing Farah Khan’s 21st century interpretation of Amitabh Bachchan’s Satte pe Satta.
