At the movies

Should Allu Arjun have waited for Sye Raa to release before promoting his film?

The Samajavaragamana single from Ala Vaikuntapuramlo which was rendered beautifully by Sid Sriram to some soul-stirring lyrics by Seetharama Sastry was released on 28 September to rave reviews. But along with the bouquets for the Allu Arjun starrer, came the conspiracy theories. Couldn’t the Stylish Star have waited a week?

This is because the energies of the Mega family, as Chiranjeevi’s large family of actors and producers is referred to within Tollywood, have been focused on the 2 October release of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, the magnum opus being produced by Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi’s son. At a time when Chiranjeevi is city-hopping, busy giving interviews and promoting his magnum opus, anything else that occupies the mindspace of the viewer is seen as a distraction. More so when it comes from the same Mega stable.

Allu Arjun is the son of Allu Aravind, Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law. Aravind for years has been Chiranjeevi’s production backbone in Telugu cinema.

The buzz is more because Arjun was not present at pre-release function of Sye Raa, which was attended by SS Rajamouli and Pawan Kalyan. Two, barring a tweet on Chiranjeevi’s birthday on 22 August, he has not said anything about Sye Raa, fuelling speculation if all is well. These things are noticed in the industry and given more importance by respective fan groups than should be due.

Three, Ala Vaikuntapuramlo is to release only on Sankranti in January 2020, leading to the question about the hurry to put out a video three months in advance. The only reason one can think of is the sentiment of doing so just ahead of  Navratri.
