Hyderabad breaks rainfall records of the century every year

The Telangana government had a ready explanation for why Hyderabad’s roads had turned into rivers on the intervening night of 24-25 September. The rainfall in September, Municipal Administration minister KT Rama Rao claimed, was the highest in the last one hundred years.

Just like it was in December last year when the city received 46.6 mm on December 12-13. In the process, it broke a 100-year record of 1 December 1918 when Hyderabad had received 44.5 mm rainfall.

The previous year, the month of October broke the record. Hyderabad received 248.3 mm in the first fortnight of October 2017. That was the highest in 100 years as the previous all-time record was in October 1916 when 355.1 mm of rainfall was received.
