Subasri’s death : Chennai police yet to arrest accused AIADMK leader Jayagopal

Eleven days after an illegal banner put up by former AIADMK councillor Jayagopal fell on Subasri, a techie riding her two-wheeler and threw her off balance under the wheel of a water tanker, the Chennai police is yet to arrest the politician. For the record, they are searching for him, having booked a case against him. But its inability to nab the main accused in a case that hit the national headlines comes as a major surprise.

More so, when it was able to arrest the driver of the water tanker within hours of the incident. The authorities even lost little time in sealing the shop where the banner was printed even though it had nothing directly to do with the death. If it was not for the public outrage and anger expressed by the Madras High court, it is quite possible that Jayagopal would have got away scotfree.

The buzz is that Jayagopal who had complained of being unwell may surrender in court anytime soon.

The fact that AIADMK leaders, chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam have not found the time to visit Subasri’s parents to express their condolences tells its own story. Both MK Stalin and Kamal Haasan have visited the family, promising that their political parties will never erect any illegal banners, both inconveniencing and endangering the public. Incidentally, OPS was a guest at the wedding of Jayagopal’s son, for which the banner had been erected on the divider on the road outside the marriage hall. (pic below)
