A newborn girl child was found abandoned near a lake in Baba Nagar in Nacharam area of Hyderabad. A milkman heard the cries while passing by and alerted the police. The baby is about two days old and her umbilical cord is still attached. She was administered first aid at a nearby hospital and then admitted to the government-run Sishu Vihar for care and protection. 

In order to identify the parents, the police are checking on the deliveries that took place in the last 48 to 72 hours in the vicinity as it is handicapped by the absence of CCTV cameras around the lake. 

The irony of the abandonment being made on Daughter’s Day was not lost on anyone.
