The family of Kodela Sivaprasad Rao refused to accept the full state honours extended by the Andhra Pradesh government. The former Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh assembly committed suicide on Monday in Hyderabad. He was cremated in Narasaraopet on Wednesday afternoon.
Chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy had instructed Chief Secretary LV Subrahmanyam to ensure necessary arrangement were in place. Subrahmanyam had asked the Guntur collector to position himself in Narasaraopet so that the formalities were conducted. But the family that has accused the state government of harassing Sivaprasad Rao, rejected the offer.
The TDP too has demanded a CBI probe into its allegations of political vendetta unleashed by the YSRCP government.
“It is a government sponsored murder. How can the family accept the state honours from the government?” asked TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh.
The town in Guntur district came to a halt with a large number of Telugu Desam leaders and cadre participating in the final journey of the man popularly and a bit out of fear, referred to as Palnadu Puli (the tiger of the Palnadu region). Palnadu is the region in the south-west part of Guntur district and some parts of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, known for its factional violence extending over many generations.
