No Singapore or Japan. Jagan asks Indian experts to review Amaravati

Amaravati is back on the drawing board. Dumping all the various experts including those from Singapore and Japan whose opinion had been sought by Chandrababu Naidu on the Andhra Pradesh capital, YS Jaganmohan Reddy has appointed an expert Committee that includes members from India with experience in urban planning. They have been asked to undertake a review within six weeks of the developmental plans initiated so far by the YSRCP government and suggest a comprehensive development strategy for all-round development including in Amaravati.

The government has taken care to choose experts from across the country. None of them are from Andhra Pradesh or Telangana, to avoid any allegations of bias of any kind.

The experts include Prof. Dr. Mahaveer, Professor of Planning, Dean (Academic), School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, Dr Anjali Mohan, Urban and Regional Planner, Prof. Shivananda Swamy, CEPT, Ahmedabad, Prof K.T. Ravindran, SPA (Retd), Delhi School of Architecture, Delhi and Dr. K.V. Arunachalam, Retd. Chief Urban Planner, Chennai.

Keeping in mind the controversy over the flooding of Amaravati and violation of environmental norms by the previous government, the Committee shall co-opt one member who is an expert in Environmental Issues and Flood Management.

GN Rao, former IAS officer has been appointed as the convenor of the expert committee.
