It was a red letter day for Kurnool. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested indigenously-developed Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) system. The test fire was conducted in the ranges of Orvakal in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. It was a low weight, fire-and-forget Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM).
The missile is seen as a major boost for the Indian Army as it was developed for its third generation ATGMs.
The missile was launched from a man-portable tripod launcher while the target resembled a functional tank. The missile hit the target and destroyed it with precision.
Both Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh CM Jaganmohan Reddy congratulated DRDO for the successful test.
