In 2016, the statue of YS Rajasekhara Reddy in Vijayawada was removed by the then Telugu Desam government calling it a traffic obstruction. This was to clear the way ahead of the Krishna pushkaram in the city. The decision had created a furore with the YSR Congress calling it a deliberate move by Chandrababu Naidu to insult YSR’s memory. It has always been a sore point with the YSRCP leadership.
On 2 September, the death anniversary of YSR, his son Jaganmohan Reddy unveiled a statue of his late father at a park close to the Police Control Room junction and named it YSR Park. It was Jagan’s way of getting back at Naidu.
