Suspect in Jagan’s uncle’s murder case kills himself

On the night of 2 September, S Srinivasulu Reddy, one of the suspects in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, committed suicide by consuming sleeping pills. Vivekandana Reddy was the paternal uncle of Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy

Srinivasulu Reddy was rushed to a private hospital in Produttur town, where he succumbed. His family has alleged that Reddy was tortured by the police during the interrogation. Srinivasulu Reddy is a close relative of Parameswara Reddy, who too is a suspect in the Vivekananda Reddy murder case.

Vivekananda Reddy, YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s brother and former MP and MLA, was found murdered on 15 March this year at his home and seven stab wounds were found on his body. In fact, earlier on Monday, Jagan had unveiled the statue of his late uncle in Pulivendula in Kadapa district. At the event, the chief minister assured his family members that the guilty will be brought to book very soon.

The Vivekananda Reddy murder was a major issue in the run-up to the elections in Andhra Pradesh. While the YSR Congress alleged that it was handiwork of one of the Telugu Desam leaders from Kadapa district, the then ruling party suspected it was an insider job. While a Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the case, the YSRCP demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI. But Jagan has not done so, after coming to power.
