Sri Nithyananda Swami, the godman based at Bidadi on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway has threatened legal action against `Puppy’, a Tamil movie starring Yogi Babu. The film’s trailer showed a portrait of Nithyananda Swami on a wall, alongside an American pornstar, Johnny Sins.
The legal notice sent to Ishari K Ganesh, the producer of the movie says “the movie makers have deliberately made the abusive trailer which is offensive, obnoxious and smacks of malice and mischief intended to tarnish the image and reputation of Sri Nithyananda Swami and his devotees.”
While asking the scene to be deleted, the notice also points to how the seer is “a living global spiritual leader” and “the most watched spiritual teacher on YouTube with over 5.3 million views”.
Director Nattu, who calls himself `Morattu Single’ in his films told `The New Indian Express’ that the godman won’t be portrayed in bad taste in the film. “My protagonist is someone who idolises Johnny and Nithyananda and so we opted for the background with their posters because we felt that was the best way we could describe him in a single frame,” he said.
Incidentally, this is the second film within a month that producer Ganesh is getting into trouble with. The trailer of `Comali’ starring Jayam Ravi and also Yogi Babu ran into trouble with Rajinikanth fans over a dialogue that made a reference to the Superstar’s entry into politics. Following outrage, the makers of `Comali’ agreed to remove the dialogue.
