Chandrababu Naidu asked to vacate house immediately in view of flood threat

There are two ways of looking at this. One, the YSR Congress government in Andhra Pradesh is concerned about Chandrababu Naidu’s safety and that of his belongings. Two, the YSR Congress government is determined to drive Chandrababu Naidu out of his house in Undavalli. How you interpret it will depend largely on your political leanings.

The Undavalli village revenue officer in Tadepalli mandal has issued a notice dated 16 August to Naidu, asking him to immediately vacate his rented house. The notice, written in Telugu says, “You are advised to vacate the premises urgently as water will enter.”

The YSRCP social media cell put out a video of water in a portion adjacent to Naidu’s residence. Mangalagiri MLA Ramakrishna Reddy told Filter Kaapi that people in Naidu’s neighbourhood too have been asked to move out.

The urgency, the government says, is caused by the fact that one lakh cusecs of water is set to be released upstream of river Krishna and that will cause flooding at Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada. Naidu, who is now in Hyderabad, has been informed about the notice.

The TDP has alleged that the floods are a ploy to drive Naidu out of the house. The YSRCP has maintained that the house has been constructed violating environmental norms. It had demolished the Praja Vedika, constructed adjacent to Naidu’s house, on the same grounds. At that time, the first notice was issued to Naidu’s owner.

On Friday, Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh had objected to drones capturing visuals of Naidu’s residence. The Andhra Pradesh Irrigation minister Anil Kumar Yadav said it was to assess the flood situation in the Krishna and not to undertake any snooping activity.
