Ravi Shastri has been reappointed as the coach of the Indian cricket team. He was the frontrunner for the job in any case. Shanta Rangaswamy, former India women’s team captain and one of the members of the selection panel said past performances were weighed along with their presentation on the way forward and that went in Shastri’s favour.
Kapil Dev who headed the committee, however said it was a close race. Mike Hesson of New Zealand came second and Tom Moody came third. The other two candidates, Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput, were seen as lightweights for such a high-profile job.
Social media had a good laugh over the appointment, most of the jokes revolving around Shastri’s reported love for Bacchus.
