The BJP’s efforts to put pressure on the Telangana government on the Intermediate Exam results fiasco have succeeded to an extent. The Hindu reports that following its memorandum to President Ramnath Kovind, Rashtrapati Bhavan has asked for a factual report from the K Chandrasekhar Rao government in Telangana. The state chief secretary SK Joshi has been asked for details on what justice has been provided to the families of 27 intermediate students who killed themselves after they were declared failed.

The allegation of parents, students and political parties was that there were inaccuracies in the evaluation process as a result of which several deserving students could not pass the exam. The Board of Intermediate Education responded by saying that most of the students failed even after their answer sheets were re-evaluated.

The BJP state president K Laxman had demanded a probe by a sitting High court judge to fix responsiblity and punish the guilty. He also sat on a hunger strike over the issue.
What this will mean is that the Telangana government will have to put facts on the table when replying to the first citizen of the country. The BJP strategy has been to ensure issues in Telangana do not remain confined to the state and has tried to use its clout in Delhi to raise it at the national level.

It is trying to do the same with chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s plan to demolish the State Secretariat and a Nizam-time palace to construct a new Secretariat and Assembly building. A memorandum has been submitted to Amit Shah on the matter.
