Centre unhappy with Jagan’s decisions

YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s intention is to expose the corruption that allegedly took place in various projects during the Chandrababu Naidu regime in Andhra Pradesh. But in an attempt do so, he seems to be upsetting the Centre much more.

The latest is his decision to cancel the contract to Navayuga, one of the firms working on the Polavaram irrigation project. The YSRCP government now plans to go in for re-tendering.

Gajendra Shekhawat, the Union Jal Shakti minister did not mince words while speaking on Polavaram in the Lok Sabha.

“We are unhappy that the Andhra Pradesh government has cancelled the contract and decided to go in for fresh tenders. It will not only increase the time that will be taken to finish the project, it will also lead to cost escalation,” said Shekhawat.

The NDA government is not amused that despite being a Rs 55000 crore national project for which the Centre is bearing the cost, its advice or concurrence was not sought before taking the decision.

Before this, the Centre through the Power minister and secretary had counselled the Jagan government not to review the Power purchase agreements, arguing this will scare away the investors. But the Andhra Pradesh government did not pay heed and went ahead with its decision before the High court put a stay.

The chief minister is expected to travel to Delhi around August 6-7 to meet the Prime minister and other Union ministers. These contentious issues are likely to figure during those meetings.

  1. How the state govt take unilateral decisions in central projects. It looks foolish and without any vision. Can’t the centre stop the damaging acts of Jagan Govt when he is causing irripairable loss to state.
