This Vinayaka Chaturthi, Ganesha idols made with cow dung

With the emphasis on eco-friendly Ganesha idols, BJP legislator from Hyderabad, T Raja Singh has unveiled the plan to produce the idols of the Elephant God with cow dung.

“Test on the cow dung was done by Panchagavya Panchagavya Research Center in Beeramguda by Shri Brahma Ramha Mallikarjuna Swami Gaushala. The idols are extremely lightweight and already 1000 idols have been prepared. We plan to approach the Hyderabad municipal authorities and if they help, we can produce up to a lakh idols for this festival,” Raja Singh told Filter Kaapi.

Singh who heads the cow protection movement in Telangana says devotees who buy the idol do not have worry about the smell factor.

“Our Puranas have said Gomay vasthe Lakshmi,” he says.

The Gaushala has not decided on the pricing of the idols though Singh says it will kept to the bare minimum. This year, Vinayaka Chaturthi falls on 2 September.
