`YS Rajasekhara Reddy was my best friend’

“Rajasekhara Reddy was my best friend”.

This was the revelation made by Chandrababu Naidu inside the Andhra Pradesh assembly on Thursday. Making an interjection when he was accused of deliberately removing statues of YS Rajasekhara Reddy when he was in power, Naidu stood up to counter the allegation.

“Many people in this House do not know that Rajasekhara Reddy was my best friend. We have shared a room together when we were together in the same party till 1983. We were only divided on political lines because I moved to the Telugu Desam from the Congress while he stayed on with the Congress. Personally we had a lot of affection for each other,” said Naidu.

Naidu also pointed out that Jaganmohan Reddy has no clue about this friendship. While Naidu was giving expression to his affection for YSR, Jagan was seen laughing in his seat.

The former CM wanted to make the point that there was no reason for him to order the removal of YSR statues.

It is a fact that despite being bitter political rivals who left no stone unturned to corner each other, they remained on first name terms in private.

By a strange coincidence, actor Shri Tej who played the role of YSR in the biopic on NT Rama Rao, titled `NTR’ played the role of Chandrababu Naidu in Ramgopal Varma’s `Lakshmi’s NTR’.
