Raja Singh’s injury turns out to be self-inflicted

Tiger Raja Singh is in the midst of a controversy yet again. He was admitted to hospital after a fracas with the Hyderabad police on Wednesday night.

Raja Singh, who is the lone BJP MLA in the Telangana assembly, was attempting to shift the statue of Rani Avanti Bai located in Jummeraat bazaar in his Goshamahal constituency. In a tweet, he alleged that while he and his cadre were trying to move out the statue, the police attacked him. Singh was taken to hospital for first aid and he named four police officers including two assistant commissioner of police and two sub-inspectors for assaulting him.

His medical report states : “At 130 am at Jummeraat bazaar chowk, (Raja Singh) alleged to have been beaten with wooden sticks. Head injury present.”

However, a video that has emerged now shows Raja Singh hitting himself repeatedly with a stone and one of his cadre indicating to the others that their leader was bleeding. The footage suggests that it was an attempt to garner sympathy by staging an attack on himself.

Raja Singh who is known to make controversial statements against Muslims, had hit the headlines in May when he was arrested on the orders of the Hyderabad police commissioner when he arrived at the trouble-hit Amberpet where the demolition of a mosque had led to communal tension. Singh was against the reconstruction of the mosque.

Singh has now accused the Hyderabad police of constantly targeting him. But he will find it tough to justify the injury he has inflicted upon himself.

The Hyderabad police has accused Raja Singh of trying to install a 20 feet statue in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

“When he was prevented by the police, he hit himself wiht a stone on his head and caused a self-inflicted injury on his head and is falsely alleging that the police has caused this injury,” said the DCP West zone in a statement.
