The Telangana police’s tagline is `People-friendly police’. Now it can incorporate `Dog friendly’ to its CV as well.

On the intervening night of 22-23 May, Brownie, the 19-month-old beagle of Vinod Kumar, the manager of an icecream store in Koti area of Hyderabad went missing when it had been let out to attend to nature’s call. When it did not return after a while and its owners had checked the area, they filed a complaint with the Sultan Bazar police station.

A case of theft was registered under Section 379 because CCTV footage revealed three youth picking up Brownie from the road. A nine-member team under the leadership of Inspector Laxman and Sub-inspector Naresh was formed which perused the CCTV footage at different points around the area. The culprits were tracked down after 19 days of search on 10 May. They turned out to be school students. While two of them have been picked up, one is still absconding.

“They had taken the dog since they found it roaming. It is very rare for a case related to a dog to be registered with the police. We are happy we could trace the dog,” Naresh told Filter Kaapi.
