When the counting began in the Jalandhar (Reserved for SC) Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday, Neetu Shuttern Wala, an Independent candidate, was a heartbroken man. This was because he had polled only five votes.
During a media interaction, Wala started sobbing while revealing that there were nine votes in his own family and he suspected four of his own family members had turned Brutus.
Did he blame his own family members for not reposing their faith in him, Wala was asked.
“No I think there was some tampering with the EVMs,” he alleged.
But by the end of the day, Wala would have realised he cried too soon. In the election that was won by Santokh Singh of the Congress, Wala polled 856 votes.
But Wala has sworn never to contest an election again.
